October 27th...

I arrived early, and i had the opportunity to talk with some students
In class, students continue with their classwork.
The teacher gives me some works for check and evaluate it, it takes me all afternoon.

I think that, "the greatest appreciation that a teacher can receive is that students find a reason to continue studying.."

October 20th.

A normal day.

The students finish their works, in pairs, about past simple.
The teacher begins to give vocabulary and intructions to finish the classwork.
The information is about past simple.
The students begin the last classwork about past simple.
The classwork is about "actions from morning to evening".

They work successfully...
October 14th.

In the classroom, the teacher explains the past simple again, because many students have doubts.
Meanwhile, I continue correcting classworks and tests.

The students begin a new classwork. So the teacher gives the new instructions and vocabulary for that classwork.

As usual I walk between the students to clarify their doubts and answer their questions.

Students work without problems, but I think they do it mechanically.

So, I think, perhaps "with practice comes knowledge"...

Propuestas Educacionales Presidenciales.

Marco Enríquez-Ominami.

Strengthen public education (Focus on quality)
-Investment in infrastructure
-National Model High Schools
Returning education to teachers
-Promoting cluster Multidisciplinary with universities
-Career teachers and incentives for post-training
Focus the educational process to train people
- Overcoming Simce
- Degression students per course

Improving government program is the cornerstone to good education for all. "I want all the children of Chileans to have the education of the children of the deputies," he said.

If we want a better society, we must invest more in education. That's why I have pledged to increase the education budget in US 1700 millions extra per year. This investment will use it to reduce the quality gap between schools most vulnerable and the most successful, and reduce inequality and improve the overall quality of the system.

Education must be returned to teachers, it is they and not others, those with children in schools and that can make improve learning achievement. The teacher should be a dignified life well paid. It is the duty of the state to ensure quality education for all, especially the most vulnerable. "

Sebastian Piñera.

1 Resources.
Besides doubling the subsidy per child, he proposed creating a "subsidy for the quality" to gratify the leading colleges and awards (educational materials or cultural trips) to courses to achieve progress on standardized tests.

2 Support.
A network of expert teachers help individual students with more difficulties. It will give funds to initiatives for higher education institutions accredited to level aimed at middle school students.

3 Directors.
A search committee will select young people with leadership skills in various disciplines and invite them to conduct schools. They were trained in university programs and competitions will have preference in access to positions with higher salaries than at present.

4 Pedagogies.
Pedagogies unaccredited fellowship will be close and high scoring for PSU students (normally about 650) who want to be teachers. At egress shall be provided an enabling voluntary review. Those who adopt and have had an outstanding PSU, they will enter the teaching profession with the highest salaries. The remaining approve accessed with salaries between. Those who disapprove or do not surrender, paid lower wages and will be evaluated a year later.

5 Teachers.
The new teaching career, which will replace the teachers' statute, including tri-annual assessments by local supporters (on national guidelines). A good assessment will mean higher wages higher than those generated by years of service.

6 English.
Join with bringing anglophone teachers, we propose a training program for practicing teachers with an unsatisfactory level.

7 Technology.
Provide each room computer, projector, internet connection and interactive white board. Attendance is measured digitally and create a national repository of teaching materials online.

8 Accountability.
National standards will be established initially be lower for schools that serve students more vulnerable. Compliance is assessed by value-added tests that measure student progress over time.

9 Parents.
In low-performing public schools, parents may require a change in management. For example, which concessions to a foundation school nonprofit corporation or other quality education.

10 Public Education.
The new corporations of quality education that proposes (see graphics) will be headed by the mayors, but with an elected executive director with a scheme similar to the Senior Management Service. Will have an advisory board composed of prominent directors of the commune.

Eduardo Frei.

Improving Educational Administration of Primary Schools. And gradually increase the subsidy for schools by the state.

Respect all existing rights of teachers set out in the teachers' statute. At the same time create a Career Teaching Excellence to respond to the challenges of education in Chile in the 21st century, in dialogue with stakeholders in the education system.

Doubling the amount in hours of physical education.

* Sports and recreation, are very important physically and socially. Importantly, it has been shown that sport is a great help in daily school life and improves cerebral oxygenation, confidence, emotional stability, memory, intellectual functioning, health and psychological well-being by educating and enabling greater focus and available to the child to study, and thus improves academic performance, and fitness.

I think an important part of the problem of education is in the family, therefore we must work together with parents to obtain better academic results.
As a society we have ignored education, we have lowered educational standards, instead of strengthening education systems in schools with low academic performance. I think unfortunately, we are demanding quantity and not quality, which is what we need.
I hope we can improve this in the next government, trying to increase economic support to education, and strengthen the family environment.
We also need competent management and quality, to implement an educational system that improves the current one, involving both teachers and pupils.
October 13th.

Today I had the opportunity to participate in the teachers council.
Teachers checked some topics. And they tried to agree on ways of solution.
For the first time I saw that there are groups among teachers. Therefore every teacher takes the position of his group. But they have a lots of points in which all teachers agree. For example, the misbehavior of some students, between others topics.

In class, students continue with their classwork.
The teacher gives me some works for check and evaluate it, it takes me all afternoon.

I think that, "Nothing is more deficient, and misleading, that a grade to learn about the progress of a student."
Also, referring to the reunion, I think, "if we treat some students as problems, we will get them to be, what we think of them."
October 07th.

I had the opportunity to enter in the realities of many students. Because the students in their researches, questions, doubts trust in me...

Inside the classroom, the students interact and develop their classworks normally. They continue working about past simple.
When the students have any queries or questions they ask me to help them about english.

But I think that "the participation of students is the only thing that can make them part of the lesson."
October 06th.

On my arrival, it's common that students come to me, friendly to greet me or ask me on different topics.

It's nice to know that students respect you, and they have the teacher to supplement what they don't have in their homes.

In class, everything goes normal, students complete their guides about present simple.
The girl, who the week before she trusted me her supposed state of pregnancy, she said that she is not pregnant. So, I told her to take action and she should start taking care of herself...

After recess, students begin the classwork, about past simple. I sometimes think that they only work with guides and class works is not very effective ...
I can see in their faces that this method of work in classes don't like at all.

Discovering that the students have understood nothing, is like discovering you've been writing without ink.

miércoles, 14 de octubre de 2009

September 30th.

Another normal day.

The students finish their works, about present continuos.
The teacher begins to give to the students new vocabulary and their respective guides.
The new information is about the present simple and past simple too. The class work consists of "daily routines".

As usual they ask me questions, and queries in the new matter past.
They operate safely.
Sometimes they have difficulty processing new knowledge.
But they will eventually adapt.

September 29th.

Normal day.
Students finish the class work, about present continuous.
While the teacher and I are grading class works and tests.
Students work in order, and without problems.

During class, I saw that one student cried, so I worried. Then I approach her and ask her if she has any problems or something. Obviously between us.
She says, if she can talk to me after class. So I accept.
The problem was that she thought she was pregnant. So I advise her to buy a pregnancy test to be sure.
I explain the methods of contraception, and how to use them. Assuming she is not pregnant, to not worry her about it.
Some students were coming to get the news, but without results.

So, I thought, " you never, but never, talk about personal issues of one student in front of the other students."

lunes, 12 de octubre de 2009

September 23rd.

September 23rd.

In class, the teacher returns to explain the present continuous, because many students have doubts.
Meanwhile, I correct classworks and tests.

Then the teacher gives instructions and vocabulary for the next class work.
As usual I walk among the students to clarify their doubts.

The work is to make a puzzle with 15 verbs in the infinitive and 15 verbs in gerund. Then make 15 sentences with each verb.

Students work without problems.

* So I thought, when a teacher believes in her students, students begin to believe in themselves.

September 22nd.

September 22nd.

As always, the arrival was normal, some students greeted me, others just look at me.
We returned to regular classes. Students continued working on the guides, about present continuous, they should finish it.
At the end of the guides, were delivered to me for correction.
I must say that it is exhausting work.

* So, I think ... Being a teacher, I can not think of another profession more sacrificed, underpaid, poorly appreciated and, paradoxically more satisfactory.

domingo, 11 de octubre de 2009

September 16th

September 16th

On my arrival, the head of UTP informs me that the teacher was away, she was on official school business.
Therefore, she asked me whether I could replace her.
I agreed. She gave me a folder with evidence, because that day was the trial test of SIMCE (Mathematics).
So, once I was in the room, I explained the situation to students, I made it clear to them the rules for the test. For example, it was individual and was a cumulative grade for mathematics.
the test was done in an orderly manner, because the students cooperated.

I believe that, despite my inexperience, I controlled the situation and I got good results.

And so, during and along the afternoon I tried to maintain the same posture for working with the differents courses.

* I think, The students will obey and respect for two reasons: for fear of the teacher, or because they trust him.
September 15th.

The students make me feel like a teacher more.
Inside the classroom, the students interact and relate in a normal way, they work on the guides given by the teacher. They are working present continuous.
When the students have any queries or questions they ask me to help them.
It is a good way to enter into their world, knowledge, and learn from them.

* Students will make me lots of questions waiting for my answers... Then I think, "I shouldn't say what they want to know, but how they should learn it."

viernes, 9 de octubre de 2009

September 09th

September 09th

On my arrival, many students recognized me. Some even came to ask information regarding the subject or concerns about me.

Entering the classroom (1 A), we did a review of work in previous classes.
Differently from other classes, I walked through the aisles between desks. Students began asking questions about the work they were doing.
In this way I could see the difference in realities between each student and their different skills too ...

* When I walk among the students thought, "every student is special ... each student has a different need.

jueves, 8 de octubre de 2009

1° medio F, September 08th

15.45 hrs. Free time.

• They feel a little shy with me.
• I help them again and again explaining the structure of the present continuous, it is certainly something new for them. I can not dwell on emphasize the poor basis bring it from their basic education.

domingo, 4 de octubre de 2009
