May 18th, 24th, 25th and 31th

During the following classes the students continued doing worksheets about simple past. As always, the students worked in an orderly manner.

After each worksheet the teacher checked the work done on the board, while the students reviewed and corrected.

For my part, I helped students to solve their doubts, queries and questions. Also, I helped the teacher to correct, check and give grades to the worksheets and tests done previously.

During my practice I have achieved and improved in many aspects, as a teacher. In conclusion, my teachers taught me a lot, with my experience in the Vise, I learned more... with my future colleagues, most, but with my students even more.

Workshop N°4 Gather on groups of four and comment about the following statements and questions based on the time you have been at your school:

1.- How was your reception at the school you were assigned at? How did you feel? How did the students react when they saw you?

The reception was very good, excellent. Many teachers greet me and welcome me. They offered me their help in all aspects in which they can.
They make me feel very good, I feel integrated as a teacher of the group.
Students also received me very well, they knew me last year. Many students came to greet me, they made me many questions, for example, why did not begin since the start of classes?, What I did on vacation?, about the earthquake, which courses would be? etc etc.

2.- Talk about the school`s surrounding. Do you think it affects the learning process?

The school is at the end of a street, away from the main street, so the school’s surrounding, noise or other, is not considered. So do not interfere with the learning process.

3.- Describe your guide teacher, use the following points:

a) Willingness to help you: the teacher was always with the willingness to help in everything I could need, and vise versa.

b) Relation with the rest of the teachers and the personnel at school: according to what I understand about the relationships among teachers, there are small groups. But her relationship, in general, with other teachers is very good.

c) Personal charisma to teach: Her charisma is something special, though, she tries many ways to motivate students, in spite of her mastery of language, her creative worksheets, but it is difficult to achieve in the classroom, by the low level students know and bring about english from basic education.

d) Proficiency in the L2: Very good.

e) Relation with the students: On the relationship with their students is good, although a little distant. the teacher is very demanding and likes to see students improve and stay in order

f) Teaching methods: As the level that students handle is very low, it is impossible to work with the books that gives the ministry of education.
Therefore, the teacher has developed worksheets, something like a book, and which work in the classroom. Also, use the radio to improve listening.
After each worksheet are reviewed in the blackboard, for better understanding of the students.

4.- How is the relation among students in the class?, comment about behavior,
motivation and levels of English: The relationship between students are good, some of them have discipline problems, but the teacher knows how to keep them in order, unfortunately the low level of English, bad teachers in basic education, some students created a rejection to the subject. Moreover, most students do not understand, I help them making them comparisons between Spanish and English, and I think it gives results, but the problem is that they do not study, don’t do their worksheets or homework.

5.- Do you think this experience is going to be useful? Support your answer.

Obviously, I have improved a lot in my Vises, and I learned a lot. And definitely this experience will be very useful to me, adding it to other teaching's skills that I need to improve. I'm closer to the teacher I want to be, but I know that I have much to learn, but with practice comes knowledge.

Test Day

As I said at the end of the previous class, Today is a test day about simple present and simple past.

On my arrival, students make me their last questions and clarify doubts about the tenses before they taking the test.

Students enter the room, while the teacher was distributing them in a different desks and than usual. Once all the students was sitting she gave them the test, while I wrote the vocabulary on the board.
Students take the test calm, quiet and orderly.

Several times the teacher left me alone with them, but I had no problem to handle them during the test.

I think, The students will obey and respect for two reasons: for fear of the teacher, or because they trust him.

May 10th and 11th

On my arrival, it's common that students come to me, friendly to greet me or ask me on different topics.

It's nice to know that students respect you, and they have the teacher to supplement what they don't have in their homes and find someone to trust.

In the classroom, everything goes normal, students work their worksheets about past simple and they keep asking me about their questions and doubts.

After recess, in the second class, the students finished the classwork. I sometimes think that they work with worksheets and classworks is not very effective... But at least some of them understand...

In the next class they will have a test about simple present and simple past.

I tried to do my best, explained again and again.

Sometimes they have difficulty processing new knowledge.
But they will eventually adapt.

May 03rd

In the classroom, the teacher introduced and explained the past simple.
Meanwhile, I continued correcting classworks and worksheets.

Then, the students began a new classwork. So the teacher gave the new instructions and vocabulary for that classwork.

As usual I walked between the students to clarify their doubts and answer their questions.

Students worked without problems, but I thought they did it mechanically and didn't understand, so I explained them its meaning in spanish language and then compared it with english... Then I explained then in the board affirmative, negative and question form and about verb to be simple past.

The teacher congratulated me, then she asked me to prepare some worksheets to work in classes about simple past and possessive pronouns. And I accepted.
